Job Description
The OOW Engineer (3rd/Apprentice) will play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations. Working under the guidance of the Chief Engineer and senior officers, you will be involved in monitoring, maintaining, and repairing the ship’s main and auxiliary systems—particularly on offshore or dredging vessels. Responsibilities
- Watchkeeping and Safety
- Stand watch to ensure the safe and environmentally compliant operation of main and auxiliary machinery.
- Keep accurate technical logs and reports during each watch.
- Maintenance and Repairs
- Assist with planned maintenance tasks on engines, generators, and other key systems.
- Collaborate with the Chief and Second Engineer to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical faults.
- Inventory and Spare Parts Management
- Help maintain appropriate stock levels of essential spare parts and supplies.
- Report any inventory issues to senior engineering staff promptly.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Adhere to international and national maritime regulations, as well as the company’s safety management system (ISM).
- Support ISPS procedures and ensure security protocols are followed.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth vessel operations and promote a positive onboard culture.
- Participate in training and drills that enhance overall crew readiness.
Qualifications
- Valid STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) – Mandatory.
- Maritime engineering, mechanical/electrical diploma, or a relevant field.
- Familiarity with planned maintenance systems and basic engineering tasks is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to learning.
